High Power Current Sensing Resistor
Current Sensing Resistor is to monitor current flow in electrical circuits for protection. Results of current sensing are calculated by V=I*R according to difference of voltage drop through a resistor device. Knowing how much amount of current is measured is greatly helpful for engineers to make more precision design. Generally, current sensing resistor is manufactured by metal alloy and often by surface mounted type.

Features of metal alloy resistors:
(1) By metal alloy, resistance value could be low in range of 0.1 mΩ~1000mΩ(1Ω).
(2) Metal alloy could be used for high temperature 800℃~1500℃ without burning up unless a surge power so generally its service time is long. Resistance remains stable even after long service time.
(3) Low resistance for big current. For example: 2W-10mΩ

When it's still within rating power, even voltage in two sides of resistors is low, metal alloy resistors could still be used for high voltage circuit.
V=I×R 2W-10mΩ I=14.14A
V=0.01×14.14=0.141V
2W-1mΩ V=44.7×0.001=0.0447V

By the mentioned features, metal alloy Current Sensing Resistors with high power and low resistance are used to detect current and overcurrent protection such as O.V.C., P.F.C., P.W.M….etc. Current Sensing Resistors are designed to detect current and with high power (more than 1/2 Watts). In concern of high ambient temperature and surge occurrence, T.C.R. is an important value to be considered for precision and protection.
